Topped with 99 pine trees (probably), May Hill (Gloucestershire) is world famous (in small circles!) as being the epicentre for fine, English Perry.
99PINES is a community enterprise, run by volunteers who scour local villages, gardens and heritage orchards to find the rarest and finest fruit. We love showing off single varieties and experimenting with orchard blends.
100% of our profits support local charities and we’re proud in 2024 to continue our support to St Richards Hospice (Worcester) and Teens in Crisis (Forest of Dean) thanks to the generous help of our supporters and trustees.
Here’s a small selection of our perrys.
We produce our perry in small batches, which we’re constantly improving and changing based on the previous years harvest. In 2024 we will be releasing a broader range of single varieties (incl. Butt, Thorn and Gin Pear) and two heritage orchard blends.
Fermented and matured over 18 months to produce a light perry with herbaceous tones and a citrusy zing.
Cider review noted this as a “massive tropical fruit party .. Drink in sunglasses”
Fermented and matured over 18 months to produce a soft, creamy and remarkably light, fruity perry.
A soft, creamy perry with hints of vanilla. Fermented in a bourbon cask over 12 months to develop a deeper, richer flavour.
The perfect gift for those with impeccable taste! All 3 varieties to compare and enjoy at your leisure.
We like to be bijou! We’re small batch producers, but are proud to support a handful of local, passionate outlets. We’re also excited that you can buy some of our range online through thecatintheglass.co.uk!
However, we seek to be flexible, so please contact us if these don’t work for you!
We’re pretty geeky about Perry pears here at PINES HQ. The finest English Perry pears are found on our doorstep, on and within sight of May Hill, Gloucestershire.
With centuries of heritage and varieties so local and rare, some are named and still found in local villages, parishes and farms. Examples include the Blakeney Red and Taynton Squash, a super rare variety producing what some folks describe as the “Champagne of England”.
In 2023 we were kindly offered access to more local orchards and are excited to have a broader range of special single varieties (including Gin Pear, Thorn and Butt) and two heritage orchard blends, dating back to the 16th century.
All our Perry’s are made from 100% juice and fermented using their own natural yeasts to show off their unique characteristics and flavour.
All of our Perrys are made using a traditional methods, including a “rack and cloth” press, where layers or chopped fruit are wrapped in muslin cloth and pressed by hand.
Our 100% juice is transferred directly to containers where we allow it to slowly ferment for up to 12 months, before it is bottled and left to mature before selling.
We’re a super small community project staffed entirely by volunteers. We support local charities nominated by our fruit suppliers and supporters.
We’re run by a committee of trustees and totally reliant on the support of local fruit growers, be that private gardens, orchards or farms.
We are also generously supported by our landlord, our friendly and equally awesome local accountant and creative gurus at 10Yetis PR firm.
During our AGM we carefully select local charities nominated by our supporters.
We are currently proudly supporting the following fabulous local charities:
Teens in Crisis (Tic+) – Gloucestershire based charity supporting teenagers and their families with issues such as depression, anxiety, bereavement, bullying and self-harm. £1,750 donated in 2023.
St Richards Hospice – Worcester based hospice caring for adults with serious progressive illnesses, improving their quality of life during treatment. £1,750 donated in 2023.
